By now, you probably know that Kat Von D is vegan, and very passionately so. The tattoo artist and beauty brand owner consistently promotes the lifestyle on her social media channels and wear only vegan-friendly clothes. However, there’s one area of her empire that isn’t vegan: her makeup line, Kat Von D Beauty.
Kat, who recently graced the cover of LAIKA, a vegan lifestyle magazine. In an exclusive interview with the mag, Kat revealed that she is working on reformulating every product in order to make the line totally vegan.”It wasn’t until last year that I was like, ‘What the fuck am I waiting for?’,” she told the magazine. “I have a platform and this, to me, is the number one most important issue on this planet.” The line is currently on PETA’s officially sanctioned list of cruelty-free beauty brands, but some products still occasionally contain animal by-products, most notably carmine (a red dye made from the crushed beetles).
“We have been reformulating anything that had carmine in the past and if we can’t reformulate them, we just throw them out,” she said. Unfortunately, this means some of your favorite KVD makeup items might be discontinued. However, that means there will be room for even better items to add to the line, and you’ll rest easy knowing they’re totally ethical.
